I'd imagine it would be hard to match the Oscar to a rooms decor |
Best Picture
The Artis
The Descendants
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
The Help
Hugo
Midnight in Paris
Moneyball
The Tree of Life
War Horse
Marg’s Pick: The Artist. No opinion on who should win.
Matthew’s Pick: The Artist will win, Midnight in Paris should win
Actress In A Leading Role
Genn Close Albert Nobbs
Viola Davis The Help
Rooney Mara The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Meryl Streep The Iron Lady
Michelle Williams My Week With Marlyn
Marg’s Pick: Viola Davis seems to have some buzz, so her. Not like Rooney Mara has any chance anyway, but I’d prefer it if she didn’t win. They might play it safe with Meryl, and be accused of racism later.
Matthew’s Pick: Meryl Streep and Viola Davis are neck in neck. Personally, I thought Meryl’s performance was more worthy.
Actor In A Leading Role
Demian Bichir A Better Life
George Clooney The Decendants
Jean Dujardin The Artist
Gary Oldman Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Brad Pitt Moneyball
Marg’s Pick: Jean Dujardin, because he will have an interesting French acceptance speech. I don’t think Brad Pitt will get it, even though he’s a good character actor.
Matthew’s Pick: It will probably go to Jean Dujardin, But come on! Give it to Brad! After 3 nominations he deserves a win, and he was awesome in Moneyball.
Best Actress in a Supporting Role
Berenice Bejo The Artist
Octavia Spencer The Help
Jessica Chastain The Help
Melissa McCarthy Bridesmaids
Janet McTeer Albert Nobbs
Marg’s Pick: Octavia Spencer.
Matthew’s Pick: Octavia Spencer will win, and she deserves it. But think about how awesome it would be if Melissa McCarthy won!
Best Actor in a Supporting Role
Kenneth Branagh My Week With Marlyn
Jonah Hill Moneyball
Nick Nolte Warrior
Christopher Plummer Beginners
Max von Sydow Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
Marg’s Pick: Christopher Plummer! I don’t want anyone to say the words Jonah Hill, Oscar Winner.
Matthew’s Pick: Christopher Plummer for the win. But good for Jonah Hill for stepping out of the box.
Best Directing
Michel Hazanavicius The Artist
Alexander Payne The Decendants
Martin Scorsese Hugo
Woody Allen Midnight in Paris
Terrence Malick The Tree of Life
Marg’s Pick: I am less sure about this one. I love me some Woody Allen, but that seems like a long shot... Scorsese? Maybe they will be like “Tree of Life” guy, just to confuse people like the movie did. My official bet is Marty.
Matthew’s Pick: Martin Scorsese will win. Yeah, that’s it.
Best Original Screenplay
Michel Hazanavicius The Artist
Annie Mumolo & Kristen Wiig Bridesmaids
J.C. Chandor Margin Call
Woody Allen Midnight in Paris
Asghar Farhadi A Seperation
Marg’s Pick: I really really want Bridesmaids to win. I think that Midnight in Paris probably will win.
Matthew’s Pick: Woody Allen will most likely win, and it deserves it. Bridesmaids was f-ing hilarious and it would be awesome if it did. Especially because Woody Allen probably won’t show up.
Best Adapted Screenplay
Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon & Jim Rash The Descendants
John Logan Hugo
Geogre Clooney, Grant Heslov & Beau Willimon The Ides of March
Steven Zaillian & Aaron Sorkin Moneyball
Bridget O’Connor & Peter Straughan Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Marg’s Pick: I want the guys from The Descendants to win, simply because Jim Rash plays the Dean on Community, and that would be so neat. But, perhaps this is what Moneyball will win? Technically, it feels like the biggest adaptation achievement, since the source material isn’t a novel. I’m going to be random actually, and bet on Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Matthew’s Pick: My bet is on Hugo. It has more nominations than any other film but won’t win best picture so I think they will give it this as a consolation prize.
